Welcome!

This website is a testament to my capability to learn new skills quickly and autonomously.
As a professional with a strong background in biological sciences, web development is not part of my education; hence I have relied heavily on the shared knowledge of the internet to build this website.
Some vital sources used to create this website are listed in the references section.
By exploring this webpage is possible to have an overview of my skillsets. If you feel compelled to contact me, use the contact form below.
Thank you for your visit.

SKILLS
PCR My educational background in a trade school for sanitary biology has provided a solid foundation in molecular techniques with theoretical and practical knowledge.
ELISA Elisa, southern blot and its different flavours were part of my educational curriculum from high school to college. Though the knowledge of the technique is complete, a pinch of practice can improve it further.
Handling bacteria Handling bacteria in one form or another has been a staple in my career since the age of sixteen. The difficulties they present in growing or dealing with them are a constant in the life of every biologist and they have been in mine as well.
Organic Chemistry Knowing the chemistry that enables biological machines is fundamental for understanding them. This was the cardinal dogma of my training as a technician. Especially synthesis with SN1 or SN2 mechanisms or elimination reactions in single or double steps, condensations and dehydration reactions are at the base of multiple biochemical reactions; hence they were taught and practised during my high school years.
Biofermentators Biofermentators and the cultivation of bacteria were part of my Bachelor's education.
Microscopy Comfortable using several protocols for histological preparations for animal, vegetal, fungi and bacteria.
Bacterial staining Comfortable using several staining techniques from gram, capsule, Acid-fast and endospore Stain.
Affinity chromatography Capable of purifying proteins through affinity chromatography, engineered proteins with poly AA tails and ligand affinity.
Microsoft office Proficient user.
R R was part of my Master's curriculum and is the language that started my passion for programming.
Bioinformatics During my Master's thesis in analysing Next generation sequencing data, I got acquainted and comfortable with using several bioinformatic tools.
GWAS During my internship at KWS, I had the chance to apply practically the knowledge acquired during my studies.
QTL During my internship at KWS, I had the chance to apply practically the knowledge acquired during my studies.
Plant breeding During my internship at KWS, I had the chance to apply practically the knowledge acquired during my studies and expand them in crops such as Barley, wheat and oats from crosses to phenotyping, including different approaches in cross planning.
HOBBYS
Computer hardware Electronic hardware stimulates my curiosity, and learning more about them is tied to my passion for programming.
Programming Programming is a hobby I developed during my Master's and further reinforced during my thesis. I enjoy both when able to implement an idea or function and solve problems arising during such projects.
Track and field has been a passion to which I have dedicated a considerable amount of time and energy and fostered some vital character traits such as determination, persistence, self-sacrifice, humility and learning to lose without giving up. I am very proud of those hard-learned lessons.
Chess Though I have always enjoyed the game, during the pandemic, I was able to dedicate some more time to it and discovered I had more passion for the game than I previously thought.
Robotics Robotics and CNC machines are powerful tools, and multiple labour-intensive steps of molecular biology techniques could benefit from such tools for scaling up and becoming cheaper, more reliable and reducing errors.
Tango A Hobby acquired during the last year of my Bachelor's.
Psychology As an individual passionate about philosophy since a young age, it was unavoidable that sooner or later, I would have developed an interest in psychology as well. Despite the hobbyist nature of my passion for it, I think it provides a helpful tool for understanding other people and creating healthier relationships. Since humans make science, the most critical asset is individuals; every tool that helps humans and their communication helps advance science.
Sci-fi My first contact with Sci-fi literature was with Isaac Asimov, and though tales of other authors have taken first place as my favourites, he remains the one that started it all.
Philosophy My introduction to philosophy started by studying law and economics as part of my high school curriculum, with Adam Smith being the very first philosopher that piqued my interest. Since then, several others have been added to my list. Currently, I do not have a favourite philosopher. However, I still enjoy reading about it and discussing it.
Culinary Arts I started my working career in the culinary industry, and it was the first time that I saw food not as fuel and building blocks for the biological machinery of living beings but as an experience.
EXPERIENCES
Intern in breeding and quantitative genetics

For my Master's internship, I had the opportunity to partake in a joint project between KWS 75% and Dotenfelderhof 25%. Some of my achievements include: (KWS) Successfully identified a gene for probable loose smut resistance in barley and located a second locus that could potentially contain another. Provision of marker cluster files in wheat. Literature review to find markers for diverse traits in wheat and barley. Furthermore, I Investigated an internal chip concerning the characterization of elite and exotic materials and compared different marker groups. While in the practical experience at Dotenfelderhof identified and helped implement a breeding approach for oats that yielded a success rate of 25% seed, setting the highest success rate of the last ten years.

Administrative student assistant

Student assistant in the organic farming department at Justus Liebig University. Among the responsibilities were literature review and bibliography research, writing reports for the fund donors and administrative tasks. Furthermore, I Served as one of the references for scanning computers and removing viruses after the informatic attack at Justus Liebig University.

Ground Coordinator

Facilitated coordination of organs of the company on ground level whilst greeting customers in a friendly and professional manner to ensure delivery of exceptional client service. Successfully managed enterprise software with listed experiences and details organised by the company, such as customer data, details of guiding language, bus with relevant information, bus number, stops, and driver. Organised guide with additional tools required for experience from communication services to logistics. While acting as the vital point of contact for co-workers and management. Upheld responsibilities whilst serving as the point of reference for all issues arising through multiple departments and communicating to find appropriate solutions.

Food and beverage industry

From 2011 to 2015, I worked on several enterprises that deal in such sectors. Two are expetially crucial for my growth as an individual:
1) Osteria La Vecchia Fornace, a family-owned business where I moved my first steps towards the service industry. To this experience, I own the introduction to the vast world of wines.
2)The Experience at Castel Monastero provided a perspective into the intriguing world of fine dining and the rich experiences it can provide.

EDUCATION
Justus Liebig University MSc

Master of Science thesis: "Long read sequencing reveals widespread structural variants in ecotype-related Brassica napus genes".
Through a pragmatic approach which took advantage of the division of the species in ecotypes and treated those ecotype groups as pseudo-bulk segregants, I highlighted ecotype-specific structural variants that may play a role in ecotype adaptation.

Università degli Studi di Firenze BA

Bachelor Thesis: "Agar extraction from Gracilaria Gracilis".
Gracilaria Gracilis is a red alga that, together with other species, created a critical ecological situation in the Orbetello lagoon in Tuscany, Italy. There were several efforts to bring the lagoon into an ecologically stable condition. Among those efforts was that of including such infesting algae into productive processes. I managed to set up a lab-scale pipeline for the extraction of valuable substances, starting with R-phycoerythrin. What remained of this first step was then used to extract agarose, and the remains of such phase were used for ethanol fermentation as biofuel.

Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale Galileo Galilei

Theoretical thesis: 'The Human Body, A perfectly tuned machine.
My diploma as a lab technician required a theoretical thesis. I chose the topic as a combination of my passion for track and field and biochemistry. The work considered the different kinetic adaptations in the metabolic pathways during the run of 400 meters from the first meters that exhaust creatinine to the anaerobic process and the resulting lactic fermentation of the last meters.
